ORFID - Our RFID

Orfid Logo Optical Solutions Logo

Continuing our successful partnership with UK based software specialists Optical Solutions we have designed and developed a unique RFID solution specifically for the library market.  As the creators, manufacturers and suppliers of ORFID we maintain complete control over the product. This enables us to tailor the solution to your specific requirements. We have the flexibility you require.

Our RFID. Your RFID.

Books on reader

The ORFID solution provides a full range of RFID products and applications, all of which are designed and manufactured at our Ipswich base.  Our flexibility means libraries can choose to take advantage of ORFID's bespoke design service and have a completely unique solution specifically designed for them.  This could incorporate existing colour schemes and/or furniture styles as well as taking in any space considerations.

Self Service Adjustable HeightNot only can the physical look of the solution be individually tailored to suit, so can the software.

Only components of the highest quality are used in the manufacture and design of ORFID, with each component, and the solution as a whole, put through stringent in-house quality control procedures.  ORFID tags are guaranteed against defect, either physical or functional.

Security System
RFID Dual Aisle System

Available as single aisle (two antennas), dual aisle (three antennas) or multiple aisle systems.  The multiple aisle configurations are suitable for open plan entrances. Where required, a single aisle system can be configured to span a width of 130cm.  As standard, the systems work in a standalone EAS mode, although an alternative intelligent mode is available.

Stock Control
Stockchecker with books ORFID's portable stock control unit is a lightweight scanner style wand with hand-held PDA. The unit can be used for a number of tasks including circulation counts for particular items or stock location search by bar code, classmark or author. ORFID's portable unit also means staff can carry out what is normally a time consuming stock check both quickly and easily by simply by passing the wand along the bookshelves. The logged information can then be uploaded to the host LMS.

Self Service
RFID Pod

ORFID technology allows library users to issue, return or renew items very quickly with no staff assistance.  Multiple items can be processed simultaneously without the need to locate each label which means each transaction is extremely quick and easy. The self-service terminals can be modified to accept various formats of borrower cards (barcoded, Milfare etc.) and can also work along side an existing electromagnetic security system, if required, using electromagnetic for security and RFID for circulation.  An easy transition from one technology to another is guaranteed.  All ORFID self-service products are 100% SIP2 compatible.

24 Hour Returns
24 Hour Returns

Specially designed to be mounted on an external wall, the ORFID 24/7 returns system allows library users to return items without having to enter the library and gives the library the option of having 24 hour returns. The library can include a sortation option if required.  The unit comes with a 12" touch screen giving library users the ability to check their borrower information and pay any fines* as well as carry out normal returns. If required the user can have a receipt issued at the end of their transaction.
* if payment module is purchased

Automatic Sortation System
Sortation System

Whether the library opts for an internal returns station or an external 24 hour returns station, both units can be integrated with an automatic sortation system.   This ensures the items are correctly deposited in the predefined bin for quick and easy re-shelving.  The sortation unit has been specifically designed to organise library items into up to 30 different categories.

The units are modular, allowing the library to choose the number of bins they require and can be individually designed to fit into the space available.

Staff Stations
staff circulation station

ORFID staff stations are provided as either desktop units or under-the-desk/flush mounted units and connect directly to existing staff terminals. The stations have read and write capabilities and allow for multiple item processing. They check each label and once the LMS has authorised the transaction, the station will adjust the EAS setting within the label as required. The staff stations can also be utilised to programme ORFID smart labels where necessary.

Tag Conversion
Conversion Trolley

Plescon offers many methods of conversion, all of which are extremely fast and efficient. The methods include either a direct SIP2 download with online connection or an option to download the library's item database, giving the library complete control over the data.
At the most basic level the process of conversion is based on the member of staff scanning an item bar code and clicking an onscreen option to convert the information to the ORFID smart label.
By using a conversion trolley (consisting of a bar code reader, computer and ORFID equipment, as pictured) the librarian can wheel the unit from shelf to shelf around the library easily.
